Maldives – Maldivas

Hi Guys, I want to share with you about a wonderful place that I recently visited and fell in love with. The Maldives.
This year I had the opportunity to visit the Maldives 2 times! The first in early February and the second in early May! I thought it would be warmer in May, the weather was very nice but a bit cloudy, windy and rainy! In February it was hot and delicious.

But let me tell you my adventures and some tips.

Hola Chicos, les quiero compartirles acerca de un lugar maravilloso que visité recientemente y del cual me enamoré. Las Islas Maldivas.
Este año tuve la oportunidad de visitar Las islas maldivas 2 veces! La primera a principios de Febrero y la segunda a principios de Mayo! Yo pensaba que Mayo seria más caliente, el clima era muy agradable pero un poco nublado, con viento y hasta lluvioso! En Febrero fue caliente y delicioso.

Pero déjame te cuento mis aventuras y algunos tips.

Arriving to Maldives – Llegando a Maldivas

The airport is very small but has some shops, fast food restaurants and cafes. Also with small stands where you can select tours or even accommodation for different islands. In Male there is only one hotel which is very simple and really not much to do on the island as it is the place where all the boats leave to deliver cargoes to other islands. For me it is like the island of trade and transit.

On both occasions I visited the Maldives, we stayed at Kurumba Maldives, an island that is only 15 minutes away from MALE. Kurumba offers boats to reach the island. Shared one way airport transfers are 32.50 USD per adult and 16.25 USD for children per way. Private one way airport transfers are available at 65 USD per adult and 32.50 USD for children.

El aeropuerto es muy pequeño pero cuenta con algunas tiendas, restaurants de comida rapida y cafeterías. Tambien con pequeños stands donde puedes seleccionar tours o hasta hospedajes por diferentes islas. En Male hay solo un hotel que es muy sencillo y la verdad no hay mucho que hacer en la isla ya que es el lugar donde todos los barcos salen para entregar cargamentos a otras islas. Para mi es como la isla del comercio y transito.

En las dos ocasiones que yo visité Las Islas Maldivas, nos hospedamos en Kurumba Maldives, una isla que está a sólo 15 minutos de distancia de MALE. Kurumba ofrece botes para llegar a la Isla. El precio del transporte compartido del aeropuerto a la Isla es US $32.50 por adulto y US $16.25 los niños por trayecto. Transportes privados de la Isla al aeropuerto US $65 por adulto y US $32.50 los niños por trayecto.

The Island – La Isla

Kurumba offers villas and bungalows around the whole island, all with terrace and some with direct access to the beach or gardens. In addition to a tub and shower, some have an outdoor shower, jacuzzi or swimming pool where the ceiling is infinite! In the evenings you can take a shower under the starry sky! I stayed in a beachfront Deluxe Bungalow.

Kurumba ofrece villas y bungalows al rededor de toda la isla, todas con terraza propia y algunas con acceso directo a la playa o a los jardines. Ademas de una tina y ducha, algunas tienen una ducha externa, jacuzzi o piscina donde el techo es infinito! Por las noches puedes tomar una ducha bajo el cielo lleno de estrellas! Yo me quedé en un Bungalow De Lujo frente al mar.

The Restaurants – Los Restaurantes

I love the variety of restaurants on the island with cuisines from different parts of the world:
Indian, Arabic, Italian, Thai, Chinese, International Buffet, Grill and even a cafe where you can order the specialties of the Maldives and pizzas. My favorite restaurant for breakfast is Vihamanaa featuring a delicious buffet to satisfy all tastes and for dinner my favorite is Thila exclusive beachfront restaurant where seafood and grills are the specialty, also you can dine on a terrace over the sea water or on the beach with your feet in the sand while the waves make the most pleasant atmosphere.

Yo ame la variedad de restaurantes en la isla con cocinas de diferentes partes del Mundo:
India, Arabe, Italiana, Tailandesa, China, Buffet Internacional, Parrilladas y hasta un café donde puedes pedir las especialidades de Las Maldivas y pizzas. Mi restaurante favorito para el desayuno es Vihamanaa que cuenta con un delicioso buffet para satisfacer a todos los gustos y para cenar mi favorito es Thila restaurante exclusivo frente al mar donde los mariscos y parrilladas son la especialidad, además puedes cenar en una terraza sobre el agua del mar o en la playa con los tus pies sobre la arena mientras que la olas del mar hacen el ambiente más agradable.

Holiday Experiences – Experiencias Vacacionales

Kurumba has many fun activities for all ages, from the kids club “Majaa” for children from 3 to 13 years where they offer internal and external activities. As activities for couples, families and groups of friends as water sports, Nightlife and Spa.

Some of the water activities they offer are: Canoeing, sailing, water skiing, banana boat, wakeboarding, jet skiing tour, snorkeling, surfing, excursions, diving, various kinds of beginners classes and more.
If you prefer more quiet activities, I recommend yoga classes at sunrise or sunset. The Spa offers classes indoors and outdoors as well. They also have classes for beginners and advanced. Or if you prefer, you can choose any skin treatment, massage or “Dhivehi Beys” a traditional herbal treatment from the Maldives.

Kurumba cuenta con muchas actividades divertidas para todas las edades, desde el club “Majaa” para niños de 3 a 13 años donde ofrecen actividades internas y externas. Como actividades para parejas, familias y grupos de amigos como deportes acuaticos, actividades nocturnas y Spa.

Algunas de las actividades acuaticas que ellos ofrecen son: Canoa, vela, esquí acuático, banana flotante, wakeboard, tour en moto acuatica, snorkel, surf, excurciones, buceo, varias clases para principiantes y más.
Si prefieres actividades mas tranquilas, yo te recomiendo las clases de yoga al amanecer o al atardecer. El Spa además ofrece clases interiores y exteriores. Tambien cuentan con clases para principiantes y para avanzados. O si prefieres, puedes elegir algun tratamiento para la piel, un masaje o “Dhivehi Beys” un tratamiento de hierbas tradicional en Las Maldivas.

Another option are the Cooking Classes with recipes from the Maldives where they show you step by step the chef secrets. Classes are on Wednesdays and Sundays in “Hamakaze” the Japanese Restaurant. They also have Cocktail Masterclasses every Thursday at Kandu Bar.

Otra opcion son las Clases de Cocina con recetas de las maldivas donde te muestran paso a paso los secretos del chef. Las clases son los Miercoles y Domingos en “Hamakaze” el Restaurante Japonés. También cuentan con Clases de Coctelería todos los Jueves en el Bar Kandu.

Nightlife – Entretenimiento Nocturno

And when it’s night my favorite place is “Kandu“, a bar with live music and DJ. Kandu has a pavilion over the sea with beach beds and chairs where you can lie down to see the ocean and the stars with a glass of wine while enjoying the live music. Or if you’re like me, you can dance the whole night!!! Wednesdays the band “DETUNE” with 5 talented local artists will entertain you with their variety of music. They play Jazz & Blues, Rock & Roll, Latin and Samba, Disco and Reggae, classical and local Maldivian music with a personal touch.

In Kurumba there is also a karaoke “Kalhu” for late night celebrations.

Cuando cae la noche mi lugar favorito es “Kandu”, un bar con musica en vivo y DJ. Kandu cuenta con un pabellon sobre el mar con camas de playa y camastros donde puedes recostarte para ver el mar y las estrellas con una buena copa de vino mientras disfrutas de la música en vivo. O si eres como yo, puedes bailar toda la noche!!! Los Miercoles la banda “DETUNE” con 5 talentosos artistas locales te entretendrán con su variedad de música. Ellos tocan Jazz & Blues, Rock & Roll, Latina y Samba, Disco y Reggae, clasica y musica local de Maldivas con un toque personal.

En Kurumba también hay un Karaoke “Kalhu” para celebraciones nocturnas.
